MA BWL - Management by Innovation

The Master’s programme in Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Business Start-ups

How can a business be developed further – whether it’s a young start-up, a traditional family business or an international corporation? How can creativity and innovation be harnessed for commercial gain and to drive growth? How can insights from the world of design help in business management?

The interdisciplinary Master’s programme in ‘Management by Innovation’ provides the answers to these questions – and trains you to become a highly qualified manager with an entrepreneurial mindset.

Through your own innovation or start-up project, you will learn how to approach innovation from the initial idea right through to implementation. By the end of the programme, you will have a Master of Science degree, a fully developed concept ready for implementation, and the ability to proactively shape organisations.

    Your benefits:

    • Open to all fields of study
    • Interdisciplinary, practical and academically sound
    • Small groups, individual support
    • Prototyping with workshop modules
    • Internship opportunities in Lower Austria
    • Close to the business community
    • In-depth insights into companies
    • Work-friendl block-schedule
    • Support with setting up a business
    • Erasmus+ partner university

    The degree programme

The programme fosters innovative thinking and responsible entrepreneurial behaviour through real-world projects: as part of the programme, you will have the opportunity to develop business plans and business models, launch a real start-up within a ‘start-up garage’, and further develop it in the market. You will explore the concept of design thinking in depth and apply it as a general problem-solving approach in the field of management. You will explore creativity techniques and prototyping, innovation research and innovation management, as well as the importance of sustainability and social responsibility. You will investigate the role of disruption in organisations, economic and technological trends and their developments, whilst gaining insights into topics such as user experience and user interface design, neuromarketing and digitalisation.

Are you aiming for a career in management at an established company? Do you want to become a successful leader who can weather the storms of the economy – and find solutions quickly and reliably, even in difficult situations? Or have you started your own business, or are you in the process of doing so? Congratulations! But what happens next when your fledgling start-up needs to grow into a strong SME player?

The interdisciplinary Master’s programme at NDU equips you with the necessary skills and knowledge. You will gain a high-quality management education, complemented by methods and skills that originate from the field of design – for example, through the ‘design thinking’ model. After all, whether you are a founder or a manager, creativity and innovation are crucial factors on the path to success in both cases. At the New Design University, you will learn to develop and nurture these qualities and to apply them profitably within a business context. Through cross-disciplinary projects, you will apply strategies, ways of thinking and working from the field of design to management, and gain practical experience in entrepreneurial activity even whilst you are still studying.
