Tips and tricks for your application
Would you like to study or pursue part-time professional development at the New Design University (NDU)?
Whether it′s a bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral program, or university course – here’s a step-by-step guide on how to apply successfully.
For all programs:
- First, create an account in the NDU-Webportal
- Choose your desired degree program or course
- The portal will always show which data or documents are still missing
Required documents for every application:
- Letter of motivation
- Valid photo ID
- Photo for your student ID
Tip: Upload your documents early so there is enough time for any corrections or additions.
2. Bachelor – Faculty of Design
Courses:
- BA Interior & 3D-Design
- BA Graphic & Informationdesign
- BA Design, Craft & Material Culture
Additional requirements:
- Admission is also possible without a high school diploma (Matura) if creative ability is demonstrated in the entrance exam
- Portfolio with 15–20 works
- Requested digitally after successful online registration
- Must also be brought in physical form on the day of the entrance exam
Exam dates:
- Endd of January
- End of May
- Mid-August
Tip: Schedule a consultation with the program director to review your portfolio in advance.
If you fail a part of the exam, you can retake it – only the failed sections need to be repeated.
3. Bachelor – Faculty Innovation & Management
Studiengänge:
- BEng Event Engineering
- BSc Management by Design
Additional requirements:
- High school diploma (Matura), or
- University entrance qualification exam (can be completed within the first two semesters)
Exam date:
- Three fixed dates (same as Faculty of Design)
- Additional individual appointments upon request
4. Master’s Programs
Faculty of Design – MA Interiordesign & Visual Communication:
- Previous degree in design (minimum 180 ECTS)
- Portfolio must be uploaded with the application
Faculty of Innovation & Management – MSc Management by Innovation:
- Previous degree (any field, minimum 180 ECTS)
- No portfolio required

5. Doctorate – Value Through Design
Requirements:
- Completed master’s degree
- Detailed research proposal
- Confirmation from a primary supervisor
Tip: The more precise your research proposal, the faster the application process.
6. Additional Information for All Applications
- Language requirement: German level B2
(Proof via certificate such as ÖSD, Goethe, etc., or assessed during the entrance exam) - Consultations: Can be booked via the info line
- Retakes: Possible – only failed sections need to be repeated
