»Black Box« Culture & Art Center
Bachelorarbeit von Veronika Ómarsdóttir
SS 2017
The black box consists of three spaces: a space on its own, for theater, opera and dance, a stage for the entrance, can be closed off with theater curtains and a stage for the restaurant and bar. There are three different kinds of exhibition spaces which all have their own character: a rough heavy concrete space, which is well suited for sculpture exhibitions, a bright and light white space, which is well suited for fine art exhibitions and a black space containing a hanging box, black on the outside, white on the inside, which is well suited for sound, light and project mapping.
The entrance is a space for performances and events, where the whole facade can be opened up to the outside platform, creating a big open area, half outside, half inside. The space also contains a restaurant, with small dishes, and a bar with a lounge, all made of small black boxes that are 'falling' out of the big black box. The space is full of opposites, black and white, bright and dark, light and heavy.
